Twenty-eight students and researchers from around the world, including Poland, have been awarded scholarships under the 8th edition of the Polonista NAWA Programme. The programme, implemented by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, supports the development of research and education in the field of Polish language and culture abroad.
Foreign students, PhD candidates and researchers whose studies or research focus on the Polish language, Polish culture, art, literature and history were eligible to apply for a NAWA scholarship under the Polonista NAWA Programme. Since 2023, researchers from Poland have also been able to apply for funding.
The aim of the programme is to popularise Polish studies and research worldwide and to promote the Polish language by enabling foreigners to study or conduct research in Poland. Polish researchers, in turn, may carry out teaching and research projects at foreign institutions offering Polish studies, Polish-related studies or Slavic studies.
In this year’s call for students and PhD candidates, scholarships were awarded to 21 students from Brazil, China, Croatia, Türkiye and Ukraine. Most of them will undertake partial Polish studies — lasting one or two semesters — or full master’s degree programmes at Polish universities.
Support was also granted to seven researchers from Ukraine and Poland, who will carry out research and research-and-teaching projects devoted to topics including linguistics, glottodidactics, Polish literature and history. Foreign researchers will conduct projects at Polish universities for a period of three to twelve months. Polish researchers and academic teachers, meanwhile, will travel to foreign academic institutions offering Polish studies, Polish-related studies or Slavic studies with Polish language components.
The scholarship holders will be hosted by renowned Polish universities, including:
- Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań
- Jagiellonian University
- Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń
- University of Warsaw
Polish researchers will carry out their projects at:
- University of Pisa
- Charles University
- University of Cambridge
- University of Ostrava
- Vilnius University
Since the launch of the programme, 283 people from 27 countries have benefited from it, including 228 students and PhD candidates and 55 researchers.
We warmly congratulate all scholarship holders and wish them every success in implementing their research plans, as well as inspiring academic experiences.
